Time travellers at Carisbrooke Castle

At the beginning of August we enjoyed a hilarious and fun filled day at a Time Travellers event at Carisbrooke.
The boys were in their element especially Charlie who is passionate about history - particularly ancient history and Romans.
I loved the fact that the hosts do all they can to involve the public particularly the children - without the usual over cautious, pc ridden inhibitions that are so common at so many family events these days.

A postcard from Sam!

The postman brought us this card from Sam this morning he's been in Germany for the past week, with a group of 19 young people and 6 adults from the IW Learning Zone. They've been making a documentary on home education and doing loads of physical stuff like hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and lots more I'm sure. He'll probably want to blog about it himself when he gets back so I'll leave it to him to tell you more.

The Great Plant Hunt

The Great Plant Hunt has been created by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwins birth. We are taking part with our Home-ed group. Since July we have been studying a section of plantlife in Parkhurst Forest. This involves observing changes and collecting seeds from endangered plants to send to scientists at Kew to be stored in The millenium seed bank that opened in 2000. For more information visit http://www.greatplanthunt.org/about.
